"The environment is where we all meet; where we all have a mutual interest;
it is the one thing that all of us share. It is not only a mirror of ourselves, but
a focusing lens on what we can become...

My name is Erin and I will be serving with the Grand Traverse Conservation District as an Outreach Specialist helping to implement the overall public outreach and marketing program of the District.  I will help enhance the launch of various new Public Outreach themes, the annual seedling and native plants sale,  as well as the Grand Opening of the Boardman River Nature Center  scheduled for August, 2008. I will also support the work of the Boardman River Dams Committee.

I graduated in 2000 from Michigan State University with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and in 2006 with a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Teaching. After 3 years teaching elementary music and enrichment MEAP Science, I left teaching to pursue a career in environmental education as an Adventure-Based Specialist/Environmental Education Coordinator for a 21st Century Learning Communities Center grant after-school program in Lake and Newaygo Counties. I have worked as a Seasonal Naturalist with the Michigan State Parks Adventure and Explorer Programs at Rifle River Recreation Area and Interlochen State Park as well as a Seasonal Interpreter at the Platte River State Fish Hatchery for a combined total of five seasons. I am currently pursuing an Integrated Science Major/Teaching Endorsement through Central Michigan University and am very excited to be a part of the Grand Traverse County Conservation District being involved in a new area of conservation.

I am originally from West Branch, MI and currently live in Kingsley, MI with my husband, Jerry, two dogs:  Molly and George, cat:  CeCe, and two rabbits:  Bonnie and Harley. In my free time, I enjoys camping, hiking, kayaking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, gardening, and backpacking.

My goals are to increase Grand Traverse Conservation District’s visibility and familiarity in the community and to engage a wider audience in the Conservation District’s activities and programs.
