"The environment is where we all meet; where we all have a mutual interest;
it is the one thing that all of us share. It is not only a mirror of ourselves, but
a focusing lens on what we can become...
"
- Lady Bird Johnson

My name is Matthew and I am the environmental educator for Gahagan Nature Preserve. During my year of service, I'll be coordinating the Environmental Learning for the Future and visiting naturalist programs, along with developing new education programs in the local schools and communities.

I graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in mechanical engineering and am a certified secondary teacher of mathematics and general science. I have been a high school teacher of special education science and general education math and am currently a math instructor at Kirtland Community College. This year, I hope to expand the education programs provided by the nature preserve and to increase its presence in the community.
