Grand Traverse Conservation District Outreach
Erin Howard has given the Grand Traverse Conservation District a real boost with the implementation of a new program to inspire exploration, appreciation and conservation of our natural world - Nature Is Calling. To introduce the public to this great campaign, sheand others at the Districtwrote several pieces of literature and redesigned the website. Nature Is Calling (PICK UP!) invites and encourages participation in community programs and the Grand Opening of the Boardman River Nature Center on August 16-17, 2008, nature hikes including a snowshoe hike, a seedling sale, a native plant sale, and educational programs for children and families. Nature Is Calling (DIG IT!) asks for volunteers to help rescue native wildflowers that are threatened by habitat destruction (i.e. property slated for development).
Outreach is a big part of any campaign, and Erin has prepared and sent literature to high school students, garden clubs/gardeners and other community groups and written Press Releases and Public Service Announcements for newspapers, news magazines, and radio to ensure the success of the program.
Designed to nurture our connection to nature, Nature Is Calling is certain to help the Grand Traverse Conservation District develop as an organization that impacts the community’s awareness of our natural resources and steers people in the right direction on how to make a positive impact on the environment.
