Huron Pines AmeriCorps: Developing Leaders in Conservation is designed to enable conservation organizations meet their resource protection goals. AmeriCorps members will be placed in northern Michigan with a variety of organizations including nonprofit resource management groups and conservation districts. Members will provide assistance with capacity building, volunteer coordination, on-the-ground restoration improvements, and public outreach.

PROGRAM SPECIFICS
There are eight different Huron Pines AmeriCorps positions located in northern Michigan and two located in Lansing. Please review the descriptions listed below.

HeadWaters Land Conservancy is a not-for-profit organization that works to conserve the precious lands of northeastern Lower Michigan by protecting the natural areas, water, wildlife and farmlands of this region. An AmeriCorps member will assist in the acquisition and stewardship of conservation easement properties, participate in the implementation of a proactive land protection project, and support efforts to reactively preserve properties within the organization's priority areas. Montmorency Conservation District is a local unit of government geared at the protection of our natural resources. Along with our technical staff we also provide several services to the people of Montmorency County. An AmeriCorps member will work with Montmorency Conservation District and Black River Restoration Committee members and partner groups to develop and implement river restoration and habitat projects on the Upper Black River and tributaries. Saginaw Basin Land Conservancy is a non-profit charitable 501(c)(3) organization working in all 22 counties that comprise the Saginaw Basin to maintain the quality of life in the watershed through the preservation of important wetlands, waterways and land of all types.  The conservancy is looking for a member to develop and implement a program to educate people about the importance of wetlands and land protection, including volunteer recruitment and coordination.
